⚡️Have the passion to constantly self-develop

⚡️Do not give up, it may seem daunting but believe in yourself

⚡️Networking is key, build a relationship with people you encounter

⚡️Always, always, always ask questions!

Tell us about yourself?

My name is Faith, and I am a Junior Consultant in a tech company. Growing up I wanted to be a doctor, I even studied Medicinal and pharmaceutical science but realised that was not the direction I wanted to go into, so I landed myself in a tech role.

Tell us about your role?

I’m a tech consultant/engineer who specialises in software testing and development. The main objective is to make sure that the software is working as it should. I also help in troubleshooting sometimes. I am still learning!

How did you land your role?

During lockdown, I did a mini-course in web development with code first girls which broaden my scope and I started looking for jobs within the tech industry. I applied to a training academy/graduate scheme with the company (I am currently working with), went through the interviews and got the job.

What do you enjoy about your role?

I enjoy the travelling! One week I’m in the Midlands, another week I’m in Brussels, Hotel bouncing and visiting different countries. Apart from travelling, I am constantly meeting new people, learning and developing my skills. There is room for opportunities. I do enjoy working with my colleagues and getting hands-on with my job, especially the problem-solving part of it. It’s fascinating to see how tech is evolving.

What do you least enjoy about your role?

Although it is nice to solve defects, it can get frustrating when the defects are hard to fix or the software breaks down. It is a headache!

Advice for anyone trying to get into Tech Consulting?

My advice would be don’t be too hard on yourself. It may seem like you don’t know anything, and it may also seem hard and intimidating but I promise you when you set your mind on something and you enjoy it, it will run smoothly for you. Also, work on your self-development, don’t wait for opportunities to come your way, and do some personal projects, this will make you stand out to employers.
